Mexico Beach

We had a big weekend this past weekend, visiting friends in Mexico Beach while Big Daddy fished in a tournament (and caught the biggest AJ at 65 lbs!)

We got to see “Aunt Weezer” and her two little girls- Lillie and Rubie.

My girls spent the day in tu-tus at the house with Mary while I went into the office for a few hours.

Britton helped me prepare enchiladas for supper, and Kenley got to sip on “a little” coke while she did crafts in the playroom.

Aunt Coco is stopping by after work to eat supper with us- its back to the kitchen and to see my “mothers day” craft that Britton is making.

She thinks that today should be mothers day- since yesterday was Father’s Day.

Amen Sister!!

Lesson taken to Heart

My little girls have been staying up so late this summer. In part because it is still light outside at 9:00 pm, and in part because they get to sleep later in the mornings.

Well, this afternoon- the late nights caught up with Miss Britton. She was whiny, limp, irrational, demanding, whiny, aggravating, whiny and whiny.

She was in timeout before breakfast, and time out before dinner. I have been making a conscious effort to say yes, more than I say “no”. And for the past several weeks we have made a turn upward.

But the lack of sleep came to a peak today.

I spanked my baby twice. And not with the dreaded ‘spanking spoon’ either. Which I KNOW is what I am suppose to use.

After Big Daddy finally got her to put some real food in her tummy (fruit roll ups and an apple don’t count) I went for a walk. Because frankly, Mama needed her own time out.

It was around 8:30, the humidity was low, all our neighbors were out walking, the crickets were lulling a song, and I didn’t even turn on my ipod.

Just having the quietness was something to take in.

And I started to think (I feel like that is the ONLY time I can listen to my thoughts) what is that God is trying to teach me when Britton is so.. whats the word.. intolerable?

And I heard him say — unconditional love.

Now as a parent, I obviously have unconditional love for my children. I will love them both forever, and there is nothing, absolutely nothing that they can do that would make me love them any less.

The unconditional love that I think I am reminded us, is the love that our Father has for us, his children. When we wonder, when we do things that are intolerable to us, that would make some people want to scream at us- yet he remains the ever loving parent to us.

I think this is the lesson I am taking to heart tonight.

My children are a gift to me, and my hands are not to be used to spank. Not that I don’t think they need a spanking every now and then. But I have to take a deep breath, another deep breath, and get a spanking spoon and not spank out of haste.

Unconditional love.

Busy Saturday

It’s 9:45 and although both my children are in bed, they are by no means sleeping. We have had an action packed Saturday.

It actually began last night when their favorite babysitter, whom they have affectionately nicknamed “Aunt Gina” came over for several hours armed with crafts. Big Daddy and I had a date night -oh la la.

This morning, I rolled out of bed at 9:00 am (cold medicine and all) and trucked downtown to a Kelly’s Kids clothing show. Basically everything I recently purchased at full price, was now on sale at 70% less than what I paid. Yes, the very same clothes that my children are currently wearing.

But that’s a blog for another day.

Big Daddy and the girls met me at the Civic Center where we watched Diego Live! From there, after eating the faux buttery popcorn, caffeine pop, counting in Spanish, and dancing in the aisles- we headed for Sassy’s house.

Once there, we ate our McDonald’s (wow- are nutritional content was in the PITTS today) and went swimming. Well- Kenley napped.. Britton got to show Big Daddy what she had learned in her swimming lessons this week. While she insists on holding hands (or a finger) the girl can actually swim. Cute thing is, that she swims just like her mommy.

Doesn’t like to put her face in. Doggy paddle is more her style.

Back to our day… From the swimming pool, we came back to our home for showers – then back downtown to Aunt Britty and Uncle Matt’s house for a BBQ. Only when we got there it was fried chicken and homemade ice cream sandwiches. Even better.

The girls also got a surprise visit from Uncle Casey!

Needless to say, they are on a sugar high and awake.

While I am putting everything on the table, I will also fess up that when we were leaving Diego Live! today there was a local radio station handing out doughnuts. Each child got one.

After this post, I think we will be having fruit and whole wheat toast for breakfast tomorrow!!

Complimentary Kenley

Wednesday night, when I came in from “Girls Night”- I went into Kenley’s room (notice I no longer refer to it as her nursery). I leaned over to kiss her on the forehead.

Her big blue eyes looked up at me, and in her sweet little voice said, “Mommy, I like your necklace”.

What? Did she just say what I think she said?!

Me- “Thank you Kenley”

Kenley- “you’re welcome”

This letter is to Dee-Dee.

And I love you Dee Dee. (Laughs).

Dee Dee,

Whenever you go to Sassy’s house, you ar egoing to see me. And do you know why I am going to be there?

Because I am going to live with Sassy. And that’s it.
