Face Paint and a History Lesson

The girls met up with cousins recently at a local book signing… face painting, sugar cookies, balloon artists, books and lemonade made for a nice change from our typical Saturday morning.

I love how Allie Boone is tentatively holding her Sassy’s finger.

Pocahontas wearing her Mommy’s old dress.. Fittingly so as her Mama and Auntie are related to Pocahontas. On my 12th birthday, my grandmother gave me the book Pocahontas and Her World by Frances Carpenter. Inside, my grandmother M’Lee hand wrote something that I have saved ever since.

For the sake of posterity, a quick lineage lesson.

Powhatan J. Garrett (father of Pocahontas) married Anne Eliza Phillips. Their daughter Florence Garrett was my great, great grandmother- who married William Moorman Boone, Jr.  Their son was my great grandfather, William Boone, Jr. (“Daddy Bill”) who married Carey May Butler (“Dearsie”). My Dad and his 7 siblings all called Florence Garrett Boone “G.G” (great grandmother) for short.

Whit must have patiently sat in his carrier for a good 25 minutes before being rescued by his Auntie G.
