Girlfriends – Chapter 2

Last week at this time, my high school girlfriends and I were putting on matching white shirts, coordinating blue jeans and dolling ourselves up to relive the good ol’ days at a coastal night club. Danya taught us how to dance the twerk, I taught them how to Instagram, and Darby introduced us to the latest health foods. It was a win, win for all- as Shea often says.  We reunite every summer for our annual ‘girls weekend’ and come hell or high water, we all seem to make the voyage.  Thankfully, Erikka makes cozies and cups for the event as our take-home party favors each summer.

Darby consistently delivers by packing old high school pictures, giving us sore stomachs from all the reflective laughter.

We may get older, but apparently we never really grow up.

We really just laugh at each other, because that’s what friends do- make fun of one another.

Only your girlfriends can make you laugh this hard.

Well, that and seeing a dubious picture of Danya at our high school Anchor Club initiation.

One thing that has certainly changed since 1995 is the integration of mobile phones into our lives- this was the typical scene from the weekend. All I can say, is thank you God for not having Facebook around when we were all in high school.

Fast forward to tonight, and I am now 36 years old, at home with my 9, 7 and 1 year old folding laundry and discussing how coal is made with Britton. I sure had a blast last Friday (and counting down the months until our next ‘Girls Weekend’), but love where I am tonight.
