With the exception of my brief stint at the University of Alabama (before transferring back to the local university), I’ve lived in the same town my whole life. I should add with my family in the same town. This includes grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, sister, brothers in law, nieces/nephews. My children are fortunate to have both sets of grandparents just 15 minutes away.
My Dad, sister and myself “mining” for gems in NC circa 1987.
Very few days have gone by where I am not appreciative of this- particularly when the school nurse calls in the middle of the day and I can’t get there. Can you guess who is kind enough to go pick up my child? Or when Mike and I want a night “off” and nearby Nana and Sassy graciously step for a much needed reprieve. By high school I had lost 3 of my 4 grandparents. We buried my father the week of my 21st birthday. Our time is short and family comes first. So fortunate to have them close by.
