Today is my Dad’s birthday. He would have been 67 years old. At my mom’s advice, I shifted my outlook recently choosing to commemorate his birthday rather than dwelling on the other day. Instead of wishing he was here to meet my children, attend Grandparent’s Day, hunt with Mike and take my phone calls at his office, I have to force myself think of the happier days, of which there were many, leading up to one unforgettable day. Choosing to let his life, not his death, shape who he was.
My devotional this morning was of no coincidence, I feel certain:
“Learn to appreciate the difficult days. Be stimulated by the challenges you encounter along you way. As you journey through rough terrain with Me, gain confidence from your knowledge that together we can handle anything. This knowledge is comprised of three parts: your relationship with Me, promises in the Bible, and past experiences of coping successfully during hard times…. In my presence you live and move and having your being.”

Happy Birthday, Dad!
