Happy Birthday Francois

Someone in our house is nearing forty, and I’ll give you one hint. It’s not me.

If you think your eyes are playing tricks on you, they’re not. That slightly slanted, but oh-so tasty chocolate cake (and icing) were baked with love with Britton.  Confession- I haven’t ever made homemade icing before. It was looked so easy and was better than any ol’ off the shelf icing, hands down. I think Britton was going for a birthday cake with personality which she certainly achieved.  I don’t think Raynes would have cared either way.

Here’s the recipe for the best chocolate cake recipe {ever}. We left off the espresso powder because my 10, 7 and 2 year olds aren’t big coffee drinkers.

Speaking of old… I had a doctor’s appointment today with an Internist. I’m told they’re the adult equivalent of a pediatrician and we all need one. I figured it’s about time I visit someone other than my OB when I’m sick. He did an EKG and said that I’m in great health but given my ‘age’ we will start keeping tabs on my ticker- which incidentally beats slow when I’m resting which apparently is a good thing but I may need a pace maker when I hit 70.  Sorry, this makes me laugh- discussing future pacemakers while my 2 year old is in preschool class.

Everyone in the waiting room was so chatty and nice, even if they were a solid 40+ years older than me. You can meet nice folks in doctor’s waiting rooms and the time passes by faster- I don’t know why I haven’t tried this before. I was invited to Ethel’s percussion performance next weekend- she even said I could bring my kids. She splits her time between Florida and Vermont and plays the alto and bass clarinet and suggested I wear silk socks since my feet are always cold. She even had me read her shirt label so I would know which brand to buy. It was LL Bean in case you are curious. I should have gotten Ethel’s email.

Over and out.
