It’s been said that writing a book is a lot like giving birth- long, painful, and rewarding. While I have never done so (written a book that is- I’ve birthed plenty of babies) just watching my Mom, peripherally, write her first memoir has me feeling like I have birthed a baby as well.
And the whole world will soon be meeting this baby for the first time.
Next week my Mom’s first memoir, Far Outside the Ordinary, will make its debut. A glimpse into her life, and ultimately our lives. She’s done a commendable job at putting herself ‘out there’- her honesty, vulnerability and candidness while keeping it real, not withholding the intimate details that would have been easier to omit. Laugh and cry, cry then laugh. “Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion.” Isn’t that what Truvy always said? Even if Prissy Elrod wasn’t my mom, it’s quite admirable, I have to say.
For now, we are getting excited about the upcoming book launch and she and I even did a little what-to-wear-to-the-book-launch-party shopping today. I can’t remember the last time we shopped and ate lunch. It was such a guilty pleasure being in a store, trying on clothes at 11:00 am on a Wednesday. My Mama even bought me a new pair of nude wedges, now I know she loves me.
All this to say…. the excitement around here is increasing each day.
Electronic copies of the book available now through Amazon (hardcopy and paperback will be available through Amazon next week).
We’re buckling up and getting ready for next week. I have a feeling it’s going to be a wild ride.
And speaking of wild, this little guy will be having some minor (outpatient) surgery soon. Can’t keep a good man down though! Look at that sweet (blury) face- if he only knew….
Housekeeping: Email subscription services are up and running again. Yes, I know the images in the last post were rather, um, large. Comments should now be enabled on all posts (not that you all have much to say. Shhhh) Still working out the tweaks, a little at a time. Thanks for your patience!
