I did something out of the ordinary recently. I went to the beach… and I stayed there. For five days. A record.
It was the perfect place for my unplugged kids to be kids. And that’s just what they did.
For the past several days, they’ve played ‘Worst Case Scenario’, ‘Scrabble’, made bracelets out of fluorescent fishing line, had popsicle eating contest (their idea), built sand castles, threw the frisbee with Tucker, swam, and hunted for shells.
The very same things I used to do on the very same beach when I was a kid.
Which are the very same things my Dad used to do on the very same beach when he was a kid.
With the removal of my children’s electronics for the summer (iPads, iPhones, iPods) it really was the best little place to just be. Unplugged.
At night we all laid in the attic/bunk room and watched Facing the Giants while the heat lightening lit up the outside sky. (Who doesn’t love a good Christian drama?)
Now, with 5 days away comes all the laundry and unpacking. I suppose it’s time I cook- although they loved our nutritious dinners that consisted of Bagel Bites and Frozen Pizza (I call it the Wal-Mart diet). Quickly, here are just a few of my favorite photos. Someone hit the lights.
Suprisingly, I didn’t bother to take my camera out until yesterday when I took the little kids out to the islands.
After doing work around the cottage, I must have gotten caught up in the laziness of it all.
