The Great Pumpkin Carver

The great pumpkin carver had the opportunity to hone his  carving skills recently as the official pumpkin carver for Raynes’ class.  He took his job very seriously, as do all great pumpkin carvers.

Now if we could only get around to carving one of the many pumpkins sitting on our porch,… Will get to that after I hem K’s Halloween costume and order 2 dozen cupcakes for Britton’s 7th grade Halloween carinval.

Run, Forest. Run! {Middle Child Edition}

Run, Forest. Run!  {Middle Child Edition}

Last year Kenley spent a lot of time in my office once school dismissed, while most of her friends went on to after school activities. With the ongoing attempt to simplify my life, one of the changes we made over the summer was the decision that she needed to something to do (on campus) after school.

The girl joined her lower school running club and loves it!

Britton had a short stint with XC last year which is why this is Run, Forest run the middle child edition. For the first time, in a long time, the girl has found an activity where she has never once said, “I don’t want to go today.”  And it’s running club. Who knew?

She finished!

Kenley with her running coach… Coach Angie

When she was done with her first race (she had a second one this weekend) she said to me in her Kenley matter-of-factly way    , “My lungs are burning” followed by, “I didn’t try to run my fastest but I ran to have fun.”

How can I argue with that?

2nd anniversary of our 10 year reunion

If you happen to stumble upon some approaching middle-age women acting a tad immature this weekend, then you will have found our group celebrating our 20 year reunion. The math has been calculated a couple of times already and apparently graduating from high school in 1995 does put you in the 20 year category. Or, as Danya explained to the waiter atBonefish last night, we are in town celebrating the 2nd anniversary of our 10 year class reunion.

Now it’s off to hunt down my old cheerleading jacket for the parade! And yes, Danya, the parade is around campus- not down Highway 319. Why do I have the feeling it’s going to be a long weekend?

Happy Birthday Raynes

There was a time, not all that long ago, when I would have planned an extraordinary birthday party for my child. Complete with hand made party favors, well thought out tablescape and definitely some cute, well thought out (mailed) invitations. But times, as Bob Dylan says, they are a changing and as the wise Sweet Brown points out…. “ain’t nobody got time for that.”  You didn’t know I had such wise wisdon within me did you?

A family beach trip, publix cake with a green alligator on top, and some cousins for good measure are all you really need. Whoila! A mobile birthday party.

And here’s a quick reminder of what it looks like to have a Mama that plans a ‘real’ party for her kid.

And the irony of it all? He was every bit as happy with his slice of cake and one present that he opened. (okay, he actually did ask me ‘why I only get one present’ as we left the party– but all in all a great success!).

Pumpkin Patch

Fall is in the air (finally!) and fingers are crossed that the mild temps are here to stay and not just a tease.  Raynes’ Pre-K class paid a visit to the local pumpkin patch and Mama ran down to snap a few obligatory photos.  It was then, that I realized I haven’t taken my children for pumpkin photos in several years.  If this is my biggest #momfail of the week then I think I’m still doing okay….

With home life having only recently settled down, post-move, we are looking forward to the consecutive seasons that are nearing us… we celebrated Raynes’ 4 birthday Rosemary style  this weekend and now looking forward to 20 year high school reunions (yes, I did the math and it’s correct), Halloween costumes that are already hung, a BIG milestone birthday for Mr. Robinson, and Thanksgiving… all in the next 5 weeks.  Time to pop some B12 and turn on a ‘Workout Radio’ Pandora song to keep us all moving along in an attempt to keep up with this wild and crazy life.
