June Happenings

June Happenings

Not much has happened with the exception of rain, rain and then more rain. We’ve been spending the better half of this month at some part of The Coast it seems– much to our charred skin’s disappointment. The first stop was 30A where we spent a week at Watercolor with my family– and my family. Also known as mass chaos sprinkled with board games, Deep Eddy and many bags of potato chips and popsicles.

Memorable Memorial Weekend

Memorable Memorial Weekend

Memorial Day weekend marked the first official weekend of summer 2017 so we packed up, I mean really packed up, Big Bertha (my Yukon) and headed southwest to The Coast. Paper towels, sheets, food, movies, books, swim suits, hats, lawn mowers, yard clippers, and sunscreen. Four days, three nights of boating, fishing, beach bumming and St. Teresa-ing. That’s the best way to jump start summer. Now, what to do with the next 2.5 months?

Graduation Nation

Graduation Nation at the Robinson household last week. I realized sometime back that a time would come when our children would enter all three divisions of their/my school on the same day. What I didn’t anticipate, was that first they would ‘graduate’ from each division. Triple whammy. Particularly as my last child leaves Preschool for the last time.  While I can’t wrap my head around my oldest entering high school, especially since it was only what seems like a few years ago that I was in the same high school, I know she is ready to fly.

Disclaimer- potential obnoxious parent bragging ahead: Both our girls have worked hard this year to earn high honor roll for the year. This means that their yearly academic average was an A- or higher in every subject area. This is no easy feat and not lost on their dad or me.

So all this to say, we officially have a high schooler, middle schooler, and kindergartner in the Robinson house….. now we’re going to enjoy us some summer.

Happy Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day should be once a month, in case anyone wants to know what I think on the matter. Bi-weekly preferable.   We are going to spend the day tomorrow on the boat on a little island just off the coast. Hoping for some relaxing, resting, peace (and calm seas).  Aunt Britty and her crew will join us as our mama is away for a bit.

Here is to a wonderful and happy mother’s day to the amazing mama’s in my life.

Two Choices

On more than one occasion lately, Kenley has heard me say:

“If you think down, you will go down. If you think up, you will go up.   You will always travel in the direction of your thinking.” -Bishop T.D. Jakes

And so it goes with one of her first ‘big’ life moments. Going after something she really wants, but struggling because she doesn’t think she’s good enough.  For many people this can be a life-long struggle- never feeling good enough. As Kenley continued to doubt herself, telling me all the reasons why she wouldn’t or couldn’t be good enough I had to remind her that life is about choices.

And the night before tryouts, she had two choices.

Dwell on all the reasons why not, have a pity party, don’t try, or better yet just quit while you’re ahead. Quitting would surely protect your heart.

Or…

Make up your mind that you want this. You really want this. Why do you want it? What’s the worse that could happen if it doesn’t happen? Then go after it and make it happen. Doesn’t matter the outcome, you give it your best and you win regardless.

In true Kenley fashion, it took some much (much) convincing but I saw it click.  That moment where she allowed herself to think maybe, just maybe, I can do this. I saw it register first in her brain, then in her heart, and she decided, by golly, I am going for it.  And so she did.  One of those first defining moments for this 11 year old– where you want something so badly it scares you. Welcome to the big league of life, kid.

And for the record, you are always a winner in my book.
